    Advice for NC mountains

    Hey all,

I want to take the two boys (14,11) car camping while my wife and daughter are at the beach. We sometimes backpack, but now want to car camp, alone and not in a campground. Do you know of an out of the way place in the NC mountains that I can just pull into and stay for a few days? Maybe by some water for fishing. With plenty of trees for our three hammocks. Are there any old service or logging roads that don't require a four wheel drive?
I am trying to find a free spot with nobody else around.
    Thanks for the help.

So, not to sounds stupid, but how do I find them? Do I call a local ranger station and ask about it? Is there another website that would list something like this?

Give me a minute, I will see if I can find something I have looked at before. It's been a while but I did find a list of sorts

I was in Pisgah NF last year and it was awesome. Lots of backcountry out of he way places and more trees than you will ever need. Beautiful place.

Linville Gorge. Park/camp at pullout campsites at top on Kistler Hwy side...other side from Table Rock.
Hike down to river on Conely Cove Trail.
Not too steep and has switchbacks.
    Quieter in the week.

Not exactly the NC mountains but....Burrel's Ford (SC) has lots of sites on the Chattooga River with easy access to get down into the river and play around/relax. It's hike in only so you would need to be able to carry you gear from the parking lot down to the camp sites (which is not as bad as it sounds because it's only 3/10s of a mile from the parking lot to the other end of the camp ground).

    Lots of trees.
    Picnic tables.
    Fire pits.
Trout fishing (make sure you get a SC license).
There is an easy, small trail (.5 miles?) to King Creek Falls

It was completely empty when me and the wife were there on a Friday overnight at the end of July.
