    Sock sizing

Just purchased an 11' netless and went with an 11' summer sock.

What is everyone's opinion on size for the sock? There appears to be way too much material/length and results in too much sag in the sock.
Would a 10' sock be better on an 11' netless?

    Picture for reference:

Personally, I like the net/sock ridgeline one foot longer than the hammock ridgeline. Example: 11' Hammock times 83% = 9.1' hammock ridgeline. Adding 6" per side for attachment leaves about a 10' sock/net ridgeline. However, any vendor may label a sock meant to be used on an 11' hammock as an 11' sock. So confirm whether it's an actual dimension or a size category based upon the hammock size.

Thank you. Just trying to understand the fit before I go through the shipping. Seems like the 10' might be more snug, as long as it still allows an underquilt it would be fine.

The only difference is the length so you can put a rubber band 1 foot in and it will simulate a 10 footer

I was just about to say that. I use nite ize 3" gear ties. My hammock can go to 12 feet if the hang space is there. My net length is 135". So at 11' I have to shorten it up a foot on each end.

When I had the winter sock, pre zipper, the extra width was kind of necessary to have enough play to get over you to enclose the hammock (particularly your rear end). With the zip mod, you probably don't need it since you won't be doing that.

A little extra room ain't bad once you lay in the hammock and things tighten up. Then when you add a UQ it is also good to have a bit of room. The dead space forms warm air.

I did notice the extra warmth from the dead space. Far more than a double layer hammock. Surprisingly so.
    Thanks Shug!

Your ridgeline is sagging in the picture. If it would be tight, the bottom of the sock would be a couple of inches closer to the hammock. But how snug the sock is, basically depends on your individual hammock and ridgeline lengths. Additionally, you don't have an underquilt hanging under your hammock. You wouldn't want the sock to compress your bottom insulation. If you were to DIY, you could fit the depth of the sock to your set-up. However, unfortunately, most manufacturers need to design their socks as a one-size-fits-all - which will obviously never be as good a fit as a custom sock.

To figure out if a 10' sock would be a better fit, measure your ridgeline (in the longest setting you'll realistically use) and the maximum sag of your hammock. The 10' sock shouldn't be shorter or shallower.
