    Bedroom Hammock Stand prototype

Hey! I'm working on what I call a hang frame, for indoor hammocking purposes. I figure people will probably say its wayy over-built, but it seemed like a good solution for what I wanted. I rent and want to get my deposit back so putting eye bolts into the wall wouldn't work, I wanted to be able to hang at comfortable sitting height (I had a stand from the store and returned it cause my butt was on the ground), also kind of wanted a fun woodworking project and to make something nice looking. I used a frame for a swing set with a 12' top beam, the bottom of the beam sits just above 6'. Much thanks to the Ultimate Hang Calculator for helping me figure out my dimensions. I need to take it apart and router the edges, sand, and finish everything when I can get the time.

I dont thing there is such a thing as overkill when it comes to this. Make it so you feel safe and comfortable using it. Looks great.

Nice job with the stand, although the room looks to be a bit cramped for the size of the stand.

Where do you get the special joints for the beams? I am looking for this since long time and can`t find it.

Search for "swingset beam bracket" on Amazon for a selection of these type of brackets.

I ordered my brackets from swingsetmall.com because the geometry, I like equilateral triangles and could make these work for the LxWxH I needed. I've seen different brackets for sale on Lowe's and Home Depot websites too

Nice! Most landlords really frown on tenants who put big screws in the walls and hang anything heavy on them, so a sturdy stand is the way to go whenever possible. It looks like those brackewhents are built to last and strong enough to prevent end-to-end racking, so this looks like a good no-damage solution, and easy to take down when you move out, although that 12ft beam may be a challenge to cart across town.

If you decide to apply a finish to the wood, maybe use stain or varnish, not paint. My dad had some old wooden ladders from HIS father, and he said they should never be painted because paint can conceal small cracks and splits in the wood that you might not notice before they become dangerous. He just brushed linseed oil on them every spring. Now I have his old step ladder but only my cat climbs on it (bad knees don't like ladders). It still looks the same as it did when I was a kid, and still just as sturdy with no cracks or splits, only a few dings and scratches here and there.
