Well guys.. we were from the east and went to countless group hangs. They ARE fun. Just to let you all know the Winter hang in Oregon is also a great time. Can’t wait to go again!

Oregon! And looking to see if anyone is setting up another January hang
Tacoma, Wa here!
Love backpacking in the Olympics and Rainier areas! Just getting into hammock camping!
Vancouver Washington here, I hang all over this area. There are soooooo many trees to hang from just do not know which two to select......

Tacoma WA here! Not a lot of experience, but enough to know I like it, and needed to upgrade to a Chameleon (which JUST showed up on my doorstep). Would be down for a group hang. I agree that the east-coasters seem to have their sh*t together in terms of organized outings, but there seems to be plenty of places to hang around here. One thing I did notice is that it is easy to get confounded with trees that are too big to fit a standard tree hugger around. That's why I opted for a set of 15` straps from Dutch.
Curious if anyone has specific campsites that they have hung at? I know Ohanapecosh is good, thinking about places like Denny Creek or Cougar Rock next year for some car-camping-based gear shakedown. Any opinions?
Hey, dasmith836,
I hammock camped Denny Creek campground with my wife and son earlier this year. There are plenty of good sites to hang from, although during the high season I don’t think I’d trust my gear unguarded for very long as the river front is quite busy with day hikers, and you just never know. It’s also a pay site, which bothers some folks. On the upside, my wife enjoyed having flush toilets. And the short hike to the nearby Franklin Falls is well marked and strongly encouraged, especially in the heat of summer.
A bit further from the grid, but nearby to Denny Creek are Annette Lake and Mason Lake. Both are backpacker friendly, and less than 4 miles from trailheads. Each have several distributed areas where anywhere from 1 to 10 hangers can set up camp.
Hanging in the PNW definitely requires at least 15’ suspension, and I sometimes still use supplemental straps to be able to span between trees.

I’m southeast of Bellevue, in Issaquah.
Also, for those who were asking about group hangs in the area, there’s another thread about the 8th annual Yeti hang coming up from Jan 18-20 at the Frog Lake campground, on the slopes of Mt Hood, OR. If I’m not mistaken, there were around 20 or more of us at last year’s hang. Definitely was worth the drive down, and it would be great to meet you all.

Cougar Rock and White River have lots of trees also.
