Is it just me or do some of us PNW hangers have a little FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) when we read about all the awesome community gatherings east of the Mississippi? I'd totally be down for a low key impromptu weekend hang somewhere in WA in the next couple months. I know very few hammock enthusiasts in real life and it would be great to connect with more. Just sayin'.

Fond memories of living near Silverdale, Poulsbo and Bremerton in the mid to late 80's in the Navy.

I'm in Portland, too! Love to do a hang sometime with other enthusiasts.

Hey there- I'm in Portland, Cascadia. I'm new to the forum and generally speaking to Hang Camping. I nd a yellow flamehave been car camping since I eas a kid and was in Scouts.. I even have professional experience camping for a couple of years in the Davy Crockett NF in East Texas, where I tried an surplus GI Jungle Hammock. Still, that was a long while ago. Now after beating cancer I wanted to get back into camping and decided hang was the way to go. Just got a GT Kryptek, Ducthware suspension, Xenon Hex Tarp and JRB Quilts. I like being in the Clackamas Ranger District of the Mt. Hood NF. In fact, I'm going up there day after tomorrow to familiarize/shakedown my new gear in prep for some overnights in and around the Roaring River Wilderness. Looking way forward to it. Also want to get back to the Willamette NF as I called that home for almost 20 years. Maybe our paths will cross and we can share some coffee around a bright yellow flame.

Welcome aboard. The Serene Lake Loop starting from the southern Shellrock Lake Trailhead is a great hike to get back into backpacking. Generally newbie friendly terrain with fun options for more advanced hikers. Serene Lake is very hammock friendly.

You got me! Although, I'm going in from the West - Cache Meadow Trail! It's been several or more years since I was up there. Also want to check out the roads there. If not too bad I was thinking about inviting interested Hangers to a meet and greet on Sat. and Sun. 10/20 and 10/21.

I'll share just one tip: there is a "secret" trail (abandoned, unsigned, unmarked old trail) that goes from near the cache creek / cache meadow junction up over the hill to the west and back down to just below Shellrock Lake. It will pop out at a signpost with no sign right before crossing the Shellrock outlet stream. There is no special reason to take it (other than to shortcut a loop) but it might be fun to explore if you know it's there.

That'd be great! I'd really love to learn more wild food foraging skills.

Also interested to know if there's any hammocker-kayakers around. I'm always on the lookout to combine my two beloved hobbies, but most of my friends are kayak-less.
