Headed to Maroon Bells 4 pass loop

Any suggestions/tips on hammock camping on the Maroon Bells 4 Pass Loop in the Snowmass Wilderness of White River National Forest above Aspen? Anything that you can pass along is welcome. First visit to this area.

I'm headed there in two weeks for the first time too to hike with my son. No advice to offer, but interested in what folks have to say.

I was just in the area. I was fishing rather than just hiking but we drove in and all around Snowmass and Aspen. You are in for a real treat! Its absolutely spectacular. Reminds me a whole lot of the Bavarian Alps.

If you are coming out of Denver, make sure you drive through Independence Pass on your way to Aspen. If you go through Aspen, make sure to stop in a little store called "Best Day Ever." One gummy can turn a great hike into the most amazing thing you have ever seen in your life Seriously though, Aspen is a cool little town with great food and fun places to poke around in.

I have been there 3 times, you should have plenty of good trees for hanging. Watch out for porcupines, they will eat anything with salt on it, boots, handles of treking poles, etc.

I was there for an Outward Bound resupply in '69, right out of High School. Wonderful time, but my info is undoubtedly outdated.

Our Boy Scout Philmont crew just got back a few weeks ago from Maroon Bells. We went there because our Philmont trip got cancelled due to wild fires. Our biggest issue was the altitude. Being from sea level, even with spending a few days first in Colorado Springs, the altitude kicked our butts. Instead of doing all 4 passes, we only made it to the first pass. That being said, we had a fantastic time!! Our first campsite was by Crater Lake and it was fantastic hanging in hammocks which we wouldn't have been able to do in Philmont. . We didn't have too much trouble finding campsites but it's a heavy travelled trail so my advice would be to get up early each day and get to your next site and set up as early as possible. The views are fantastic so no matter what, I am sure you will have a great time.

Really? We're headed out Labor Day weekend. We are unable to arrive until Saturday, 8/1, in the late afternoon or early evening. Worried about parking and finding a campsite. There is some kind of concert in Aspen that evening so the whole area will be crowded. Oh well, we'll just take it as it comes. Best of luck!

I don't know if this helps or not, but sintax77 had a trip report video from Maroon Bells, maybe last year? Maybe the year before?

It's somewhere I want to go though. Looks amazing.
