    Hanging with the dog

What do you do with your dog while hammock camping? I'm going on strip this fall and would like to take my GSD but I'm not sure how to make her comfy overnight while I am in my nest. Any suggestions?

I cut two of my failed DIY reflectix pads down to size for my dogs to lie on in cooler weather. They lie directly under me year round. It's nice getting bumped from underneath by them. Kinda like being tickled.

I have only hammock backpacked once, and didn't bring any dogs, but back in the day we had a child's tent from Academy Sports for our GSD. At bedtime we'd tell him, Crate up, Thor, and he'd get in and lie down. It helped, I guess, that he slept in a crate at the house. . . .

My first version. I use Cave Creek Hammocks Pet Palace now.

I just hook his leash to the suspension of my hammock so he can lie under me or move around in a 8ish foot radius. In the winter (< 0* weather), I will take a pad for him to lie on. Otherwise, I let him lie on the ground (he is young and adaptable ;-)). If we are remote and there is no chance of other campers near by, I will let him roam at night. It is always fun to hear him playing in the water or playing during the night.

Here’s a video from Fronkey that may help. He isn’t active here but maybe he video will help.
My beagle sleeps in the hammock with me when she goes.

That's how I've done it when my dog has been with me. I bought one of those Coghlan's Inside/Outside Mat for him to sleep on & it works well under the hammock/tarp or inside the vestibule if you're tent camping.

There's a few threads about hammock camping with dogs... a quick search turned up 75 results (though not all about canines!) Here's a few:

I haven’t taken my dog camping yet, but he does sleep in the hammock with me from time to time.
