    Howdy from Texas

Howdy folks! I work as a medic out here in the great country of Texas, and my back has been giving me grief for the past couple months. well what started as a joke with my wife saying" go get a hammock and sleep in it" turned into serious research and finding out that it might actually work! I am already into rope splicing working on sailing stuff every now and then, so making my own whoopie slings and ridgeline was a no brainer for me to try (I love making things). I ordered a Dutchware wide single layer 1.6 hexon hammock. It hasnt come in yet but I'm super excited. I feel like i already know I'm going to love this. I have been lurking on the forums for a while now and finally decided to make an account. you all seem like awesome people. thanks for having me.

P.S I do intend to start hammock camping as well!!

Welcome to HF, Bambulanceman. I switched to sleeping in a hammock to ease knee, back, and neck pain and it worked! Never slept better. Hope it works for you too. Your better half may regret encouraging you to try this rabbit hole you just fell into, but it may make you into a better man (just poorer in wallet).

Howdy and welcome to the trees!

My wife has back problems and hammocks have gotten us back in the woods when ground dwelling just wouldn't work. My hunch is that you'll love it.

Howdy! And scroll back up to UncleMJM post (number 4). he's got the link in his signature to the fall Texas Hammock Hangers Group hang. I've made the summer "Butt Bake", and could possibly FINALLY have a clear schedule for attending this fall Hang. LOTS of hammocks and great people at the meets.

That would be great if you can make it work this year, rhjanes. In your honor, we're looking into offering a basic orienteering workshop as part of our "how to" class and activity list. We'll guarantee cooler weather than the "Butt Bake".

Glad to have you hanging with us @BambulanceMan.

As for "making the switch", no switch, simply another option for communication.

If you go back to the archives of trips planned, you'll find some of our threads from years ago that went on for tons of pages. That's fun for the interaction, which noone wants to squelch, but it did make it cumbersome for those looking for info and asking questions that had been answered in multiple previous posts. When the move was made to have a FAQ page and a shift to other social media platforms for the post campfire banter it made for a much simpler, cleaner planning thread here.
