Length of shock cord for WB Superfly doors

I just bought a Superfly, and I am looking to attach shock cord to the doors so that they can be clipped together inside the tarp when not in use, or clipped to line on the opposite corner tie-out when I want to close the doors. Any suggestions on the appropriate length of shock cord for this setup?

    Can't say for sure.
Why not try some shock cord longer than you think you'll need and see. That way to can see the best stretch to give it for your proposed set up. Then cut it to needed length.
    Carry forth.

Length of shock cord for WB Superfly doors

I did what you're thinking, and it worked fine... but I found that with that length of cord--and maybe with my ridgeline height and pitch angle--that the doors closed off better with the cord fastened to a stake outside the other side of the tarp rather than clipped to the opposite corner.

I also used these to clip the doors together under the tarp, as suggested by another SF owner.

I'd measure the shock cord for you, but I've since changed to a different winter tarp.

My Superfly, and now my Hex12, have about 15" of shock cord, attached to about 36" of reflective micro cord using an Albright knot. The shock cord end has an eye and a micro mitten hook. The micro cord end goes through a mini ucr. So I have about 50" of guy line for the doors that extends to who knows how long when shock cord is stretched...
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

I don't know how long the cord I use is, but I made it adjustable, so it doesn't really matter. I start by taking a length of shock cord and tying a bowline on one end. Then larks head the loop end to the door tie out. The cord then goes through a mini cord lock, through a mitten hook or tato tarp door hook, then back through the same mini cord lock. tie a stopper knot and you are done. The mini cord lock allows the length to adjust to wherever you need it. I adjust it short for closing the doors or staking out in front, and longer to clip the doors back to each other. Hope this helps.
Homer: Sir, I need to know where I can get some business hammocks.

Hank Scorpio: Hammocks? My goodness, what an idea. Why didn't I think of that? Hammocks!

Yup, "THE WAY" to do it. I would guess I use about 36" cord going by memory.

I made a loop on the clip end as well, so I could put that loop over a stake if I wasn't using the clip. I do about 50/50 depending on the situation/weather.

Thanks everyone. Just ordered some mini cord locks - will go with the adjustable set-up. Makes it easy!
