I just realized that even if the moisture escapes the mat retains all the heat. It will be about as warm as your back. That might be the reason.

The engineer in me would want to try how much you can modify the insulation properties of the mat so it would still insulate during the nighttime. One easy method would be to get some water inside it, but that would kill the insulation for nighttime too.

Maybe a wet blanket below the mat so it would constantly tie energy in the evaporation process.

I was hanging in some pretty high winds this last week, 20-30knts and with no threat of rain I did not have the tarp up. The Draumr rocked a bit but wasn’t bad, however the temperature was cold enough that the wind would wake me occasionally as it blew across me. Got me to thinking that if I had a piece of ripstop I could zip into the bug net surround opening it might prevent the wind puffs from hitting me... anyone have ideas on this? Pros/Cons?

That's basically the same concept as a top cover like you can get on a Chameleon, Sparrow, etc.

Pros are that it does a good job blocking wind and traps a decent bit of heat.

Cons are that you can't see out and you'll get an increase in moisture within your little microclimate. In colder weather, that means dampness on your topquilt.

Good points...I didn’t consider the moisture.... it would need vent panels like a tent.

The way to fix it is to save the images to your hard drive or cloud. Then edit the images to <rotate>. Save again, and repost. That should do it.

Wife and baby take over Draumr XL

She's not quite 2 months old and has already hung out in a Sparrow and now in the Draumr XL. The good life.

Summer in Texas and other states have always been a challenge, so to mitigate the dried sweat and oils that combine on your skin in summer-day activities, it has always been my preference to use 91% Isoprypol Alcohol in a sprayer bottle with a Plastic Handle Lufa shower back scrubber.

Douse the scrubber with the 91% Iso Alcohol and get to scrubbing.

Use a Cool Max sheet as a throw to sleep in for bottom and top coverage. You should be fine.
