    Figure 8 Rappel Rings?

I've been looking into adding 'biners and rappel rings to my HH. Most people seem to use 2 single rings on either side but I was wondering if it could be done with one figure 8 ring on each side. Seems like it's 2 less pieces of equipment to have to worry about if it can be done with an 8 instead of separate ring. Anyone ever tried this, or know enough about rappel rings to give their 2 cents?

    I can't see the gain

Rappel rings should hold the weight and be safe
However you cannot open a figure of eight like a carabiner so using loops on your suspension becomes more problematic

Cost may be an issue as well as rappel rings are a bit more specialised
Pics of how you intend to use them may be helpful for people to offer more advice

    Oops typed before engaging brain
I see you intend to use biners and rappel rings so ignore most of what I have written

Lost of folks see that ring deal and think it's a good way to hang but many many folks have had issues with the rings compressing the HH rope and damaging it..including a number of failures. There are a lot of cheaper, stronger and lighter options out there for suspension. As to the figure 8, I don't see any benefit and you would have to come up with a way to lock it off to keep the rope from slipping. More weight, more cost and more bulk than any common current suspension system.

Fig8's are more expensive & heavier, but if you want to be different & go down that route, that's fine. They're infinitely adjustable just like the double rap rings & don't crush/damage the HH rope's outer sheath.
Tie off is easy with or without the extra carabiner.

Might be ok for car camping/hanging, the extra weight adds up in the wilderness.

    4x smc rap rings = 44grms
    2x Fig 8 = 282grms + 2x mini carabiner = 46grms. Total 328grms

Figure 8 rap devices are far larger. I have successfully used a single rap ring with a girth hitch on a bite, aka slippery girth hitch, aka cow hitch, quite a bit. In fact my nightly sleeper Hammocktent Gamma is currently set up that way.

'Becket hitch' works for me (160 lbs in a HH UL Backpacker).

Also, the HH figure 8 lashing is really easy as well once you spend 5 minutes learning it.

One of the first things I did with my HH was to replace the stock Spectra lines with 15" Amsteel continuous loops. From there, a whole world of new suspension options opened up...
