Interest in an Adirondack / NY Capitol Region Hang?

Hi all. For those of you who don’t know me, my name’s Justin. On top of working for Ripstop by the Roll, I’m also the guy in charge of the raffle for the Lighthouse and Lobster Hang.

I love that hang, I truly do. But for years I’ve been looking for something a little closer to home, and I finally may have a property willing to work with me to get an annual or semi-annual hang going right here in NY.

But I need an idea of the numbers of people to expect for the talks with the property owners.

If you’d be interested in attending an event like this, please let me know how many people you’d be likely to bring, and which time of year you’d prefer.

The location is pretty close to Lake George, and if there’s enough demand, I’d like to try to push for the first hang to be in 2019.

    Thanks,

I would definitely be interested. I would have 1, or 2 people. And possibly our dog. As for time of year, I would prefer Spring or Fall, but I wouldn't rule out a winter trip. Summer wouldn't be bad either, but I don't think most people care for the warm weather hangs.

Love the Adirondacks, I don't need much excuse to make it up that way. Timing is usually my only drawback.

If it syncs up w/ school calendar off days, then maybe 2-3 more.

Dog friendly would be helpful, not required.

Without a doubt it will synch with school. I won’t be able to make the next 2 Lighthouse and Lobster hangs as my kid transitions into high school.. that was my main drive to seriously look for someplace where I have more control on timing.

I will bring up dogs, and see what the verdict is on that.

I'm in as long as it doesn't conflict with the NJ Winter Hang or MAHHA.

As I'm sure you're aware, Adirondacks hangs (and upstate NY hangs in general) don't generally get many attendees. I suspect this is because there aren't many upstate NY hangers, and folks don't want to drive many hours (Lake George is at least 4 hours' drive for me from Jersey, probably five). I wouldn't expect a large turnout - if you get 12 to 20 folks, I'd be surprised.

Nevertheless, I might be interested, depending on when and where!

I beg to differ. I’ve got multiple people from as far south as Florida, and many more from NJ/NY and Mass who make the drive up to Maine. And our hang coincides with the first week of school for most of the North east. For the LL attendees, only 4-5 are from Maine, out of a group that averages 40+ people. There aren’t a whole lot of offerings for NY hangs. Impromptu ‘in the woods’ gatherings aside. Mainly because there aren’t a lot of properties either knowledgeable enough about hammock camping or with enough trees to support a group.

Counting local hangers I know, my own family, and the people above (including you Craig) my count sits at just under 50 people right now. Once I toss Facebook into the mix, I’ll get more. That’s why it’s taken so long to find a property. Most simply don’t have the trees. I’ve also been determined to find a family friendly property, with rest rooms, etc.

The particular property I’m looking at also has an added attraction, but it’s not something I’m going to talk about until I can get something finalized with them.

You think 40 or 50 people? Wow, that's amazing.

It wouldn’t. I haven’t narrowed down a time frame, but I’m thinking end of August wouldn’t be a bad idea. Before school, before really cold nights (50-60 nights) and after blackfly and skeeter season.
