Xenon 12' or Xenon 12" winter for double hang

Would the reg. 12' xenon tarp cover a double setup or would I need to get the winter version? I am getting ready to buy another chameleon for my daughter and we are going to double hang with her for a while till she gets more comfortable out in the woods. Just want to have the best option.

My wife and I like a winter tarp for double hanging. The head end doors serve more as an extension. I like to use short dogbones to keep the spreader just outside the tarp to prevent bar end contact damage.

A length of cord/rope (undoubtedly amsteel in this case) with a spliced loop on each end.

Any way to get a picture of how that would work

I don't think either is going to be wide enough. AFAIK both use the regular (not wide) Xenon, which means the tarp will be about 10' wide at best. That is IMHO adequate - but barely and with careful setup - for a double hang with a spreader bar.

I think a tarp made with the Xenon wide (two pieces) would work much better, but I don't think Dutch is selling those yet. If you're up for some DIY, kitsapcowboy has some plans for a Xenon Wide tarp which sound promising.

There are also some other options coming soon. Rumor has it that there might be an official DutchWare tarp specifically for a double hammock setup sometime in the near future. And there might be some new DIY plans available soon. For more info check out this thread (Any-word-on-a-Dutchware-tarp-for-double-hammock?)

All I see is a Xenon Hex tarp and a Xenon Winter tarp, both with identical measurements (11' x 9.5' or 12' x 9.5'). The only difference is the Winter Tarp has doors, which will not be particular useful if you're trying to sleep double (I assume side-by-side). Those doors just aren't going to close in a side-by-side configuration.

You're also going to need a spreader bar and probably Dutch Double Whoopie Hooks to keep the hammocks separated - I assume you know that.

The dogbones used here are a bit longer than needed. I just used what was handy at the time. This setup uses Dutchware's Ti Cinch Buckles and Double Whoopie Hooks (DWH). These days I use Beetle Buckles. Keep in mind that the farther away from the hammocks the spreader bar is, the closer the hammocks will be to each other, assuming the foot ends are close together.

Also, you can use 1/2" foam pipe insulation to make spreader bar tarp protectors.

<edit>One more little tidbit. I like to keep a small tab of gorilla tape stuck to the spreader bars. This is then placed across the joint when assembled. Helps prevent them from separating and landing on the ground when it's windy and the hammocks are empty</edit>

Maybe this thread is of interest to you: https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...double-hammock

If you're not in a hurry, I'd wait a little bit longer.
