Experiencing rapid amsteel deterioration with beetle buckles

Maybe I'm doing something wrong. I've hung in this particular hammock a handful of times and my amsteel loops are wearing quickly. They're looking generally very worn, pinched and fuzzy at the point where I tend to hang them on the beetle buckles after about 6 nights. I'm on the lighter side of the scale. Can you tell me what I'm doing wrong? I think I'm looping them under, instead of over the buckle but I didn't think there was a "wrong" way to do it?

It shouldn't matter if you loop them under or over. Although you will see some fuzz just from compression and some friction if you aren't at the apex of the loop. One of the biggest things to stress the suspension is hanging too tight. Using the ridgeline is a great way to make sure you aren't hanging too tight. Here is a vid...

I don't replace amsteel until I see a strand get cut. If you have any questions feel free to contact me an [email protected].

OK, thanks guys. Where is the apex of the loop? Skinniest part opposite the splice?

For a little more background, I'm using a hammock with a ridgeline (a Dutchware actually, looks exactly like the one in Dutch's video), hang near 30 degrees, and my buddy's amsteel doesn't look like this. But if it's normal, it's normal!

Having it at the apex of the loop can be done just by hooking it on and giving it a tug. If it moves as you are laying in it, it can cause wear.

I used an amsteel loop until literally all but one strand was left. Hung on it for a few weekends like that because i kept forgetting to replace it. IMG_6245.jpg

    BUT...."You're gonna die."

Love the Amsteel. It sure is strong stuff.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

Look out below! I change my loops a couple times a year, for safety sake.
