If that's paracord, then it's not suitable for suspension at all. It stretches and it'll dig into and damage trees. Look for a strap to make your anchor point. Check out theultimatehang.com and find the section on hammocking 101 or whatever it is that Derek calls it where he shows the basics of good suspension systems.

Between this site and YouTube, you should be able to find what info and instruction you need to make a good gathered-end hammock, a simple fronkey-style bugnet (if you need it) and a reliable suspension system--including tree huggers. That's what I did last summer (now you know).

Though searching and learning is a lot of the fun, as one newbie to another I'd be happy to provide more details and some useful links if you'd like.

    Good luck!

Also, check out strapworks.com and their "simple slings" the 2 inch straps will be kind to trees and may be required in some camping areas.

    Here you go... https://theultimatehang.com/2013/10/...ock-3-minutes/

You will want a more tree friendly and less-stretchy suspension than paracord. Probably the easiest is a set of cinch buckles with 15 foot straps.

If you have some ratchet straps laying around the house, use those with a marlin spike hitch or hammock knot. That's my setup.
I plan to get some of Dutch's straps but these work just fine.
