TQ Foot-end Hole on Jalapeno Pepper

I have a synthetic TQ I bought from George at LLG. It is superb but just barely long enough despite my height (I bought according to recommendations and previous experience with a down quilt but that had a hotbox foot box and I think the drawcord style shortens the whole thing slightly).

Two question I have. Has anyone ever retro-fitted a neck baffle to a quilt? It would help with the length issue.

Second...I have tried shoving gloves and socks in the hole with the draw cord in the footbox but everything falls out because the quilt just isn't quite long enough. Anyone have any solutions?

I didn't buy this quilt for cold weather even though it is a 30* quilt but since I was forced to take it on a recent trip these things came up. I love the quilt in general, just as I love all George's stuff but these are issues that are really bugging me and I need a solution.

Anyone need a shorter 30* synthetic quilt and want to trade? That would be my only other option.

What's your height? What's the length of the quilt? These pieces of info might help with getting useful input.

Maybe George could do a mod for you for a better fit? Might be worth an inquiry.

Someone DIY'd a small Silnylon "plug" to solve that problem. It was basically two small balls sewn together. One fit inside and the other on the outside of the cinch closure.

You could do the same in a pinch with a small stuff sack and couple socks.

The length problem, as stated above, is the big culprit here.

Mid-Atlantic Mountain works sells a down plug that you can cinch down in the hole. I have one and it works great. I do not have any issues with my quilt length, however.

I'm 5'5 and the quilt is 70" and is what is listed on the site as being good for people 5'6 and under. I had a 10* Ghost Pepper quilt of the same length but with the hotbox footbox and neck baffle that was perfect so didn't even question the length...until I used it. I will contact George to see if he can help at all...but he already did me a huge favor with this quilt as he quit selling synthetics a while ago and made this one special.

I will look into the down plugs though...I will still likely need one.

My rule of thumb from trying a couple quilts is to add 8" to my height. Anything less than that feels too short, for me, but everyone's different. That sounds like it might work for you, at least for drawstring footboxes.

A sweatshirt in the bottom of your TQ will keep drafts out, and as a bonus it'll give you a pre-warmed layer to put on if you need it at night, or in the AM when you get up.

Well just to put my mind at ease I went and measured my Jalapeno Pepper TQ...and my supposed 70"x52" top quilt is actually only 64" long by 48" wide. No wonder it doesn't fit right and I'm having issues. I have already contacted George and emailed him pictures. I never ever thought to double check an order from him to make sure it was the right size..

    Hi CJ,

Saw this this morning. First thing, yes, a hot box quilt is going to be longer than a cinched up snap draw cord foot box. That is where the problem lies.

I will say that the way you measured is not how our quilts are measured. We've had two occasions where someone stated our UQ's were short, but when we received them they were actually an inch longer than ordered. I personally now measure every UQ before it leaves and note the length on the work order. I suppose now I'll have to do that with TQ's as well. I'll further reply to you in your email.

I will wait on your email but I measured how your website states they are measured; laid flat open and pulled straight:

"**** - Length and width dimensions are based upon the quilt laid flat open and pulled straight"
