    Synthetic "Wookie" Underquilt?

A friend of mine who's been using a pad in his hammock wants help making a synthetic underquilt. He doesn't like messing with things and wants something as simple to use as possible. I've let him borrow my synthetic quilt with a clew suspension but he (like myself) doesn't like the potential for tangling. We've both come to the conclusion that a "Wookie" type quilt would be perfect for him. Has anyone made a synthetic (CS) wookie type underquilt? Any reason why it wouldn't work?

I've seen a few attempts floating around. I can't view Shug's link (at work and blocked), so forgive me if I'm duplicating what he's shared.

I've been meaning to make something like that for my CS quilt but haven't got around to it. I'm not planning on making a clew(ed) quilt this time.

Yes, quite a few people on the German hammock forum have made synthetic versions of the Wooki. Here are some more links to synthetic Wooki-builds:

    https://www.haengemattenforum.de/for...%C3%A4s-sookie

    https://www.haengemattenforum.de/for...und-underquilt

One member took his DD Under Blanket and simply sewed it onto a no-net hammock. You can use it as an insulated hammock as well as a Wooki-style underquilt.

The design is really straight forward: make a no-net hammock from some lightweight fabric (e.g. quilt fabric), and then sew some Climashield with an outer shell directly onto it in the area you want the insulation. I would stick with the Warbonnet design of one channel end and one whipped end, because you need the suspension to be able to snap off in case you accidentally sit in your quilt. Otherwise it can end like this.

    Digging up an old thread.
one question on making a synthetic Wooki (Climashield)

When sewing the climashield and outer shell to the "Top Shell", do you lay the top shell flat to sew it together? or scrunch the ends like it would be once hung?
I imagine you lay it flat and sew it all together. But then when you "whip" the ends of the Wooki, then the climashield and outer shell get "scrunched up",, causing problems with the insulation??

    Thanks for any insite,
    Slack
