On the four 1/2" rings I put them on, they all went back to original shape. On both 1" Beastee-Ds, their "split" widened a bit after installation.

Maybe they've got some memory that'll return them to their original shape after some time in the stuff sack. I considered applying heat to them for maybe two seconds before imagining my tarp in melty scraps of silpoly.
Okay, that makes sense. I was thinking of just attaching the rings to the grosgrain on my tarp. So that won’t be an issue. I thought you meant they were deforming the other way. Like turning from a circle to an ellipse or whatever shape they tend to make from the tension put on the line.

You shouldn't have a problem, then. You'll have to open them even less to mount them on grosgrain than on a 1/2" Beastee-D ring. My grosgrain is 1" wide on the ridgeline and I didn't want it bunching up around the 3/4" split ring.

No idea yet whether they'll deform under tension. I'd expect they'll hold up fine. I checked for a weight rating before ordering, but I didn't see anything on the website. Most posts I've seen suggest 80 lbs as a first point-of-failure for tarps... think "mechanical fuse," shear pin, that sort of thing.
