Cut up all my Whoopies!!!!

Here is how I did my UCR's Though there are many ways to do them.

Constrictor Rope: 40" Marked at 4", 12" & 27"
Bury Rope: Cut to the max length you want your UCR + 10" Mark one end at 4" & 12"

1) Create a 4" locked Brummel in the end of each rope with a 4" bury.
2) Feed the bury line through the constrictor line starting the 27" mark and run to the end of the brummel bury. ~+10" burry.
3) Tie a Prusick knot with the tag end. Bury loose end back into tag line. (see picture.) Stitch lock this bury.
4) Tie a one line 2" locked brummel in the tag end of the bury line.

I've used this type before. Doesn't hold me. A prusic holds best when it's smaller/thinner than the line it's attached to. it may hold to a certain point, but I seem to be beyond that point.

Interesting thread, as one of my whoopies has constricted to the point where it's almost impossible to adjust it. It's as though the part by the tail has become hard.... I can't explain it otherwise, but very disappointed as I keep mine out of the sun in storage, without heavy use. I do enjoy one of ditches ucr detachable ridge lines though

UCR's held me great last night. Absolutely love them!! At close to 360lbs, I never would of thought i could hang on UCR's. So glad I kept trying.

The Hammock Acronym thread was already pointed out in post #9. I don't think anyone bashed the person unfamiliar with Hammock Acronyms. If there is any place that Hammock Acronyms are useful, it's on a forum dedicated to hammocks. Nobody should have to type out Utility Construction Rope for those people who are unaware of the Hammock Acronym thread.

IF part of the purpose of HammockForums.net, and by extension, those posting here, is to "spread the love of hammocks", it's best to not go down the road of "secret handshakes and mystical knowledge." Never assume that only those already in the cult, er, hang are reading. Especially since the good old fashioned convenience of being able to go to the back of the book to check out an unfamiliar term or acronym in the glossary is something that no forum I've ever encountered has yet been able to replicate. (Many don't even try.) Why is it convenient? Because it's always at the back of the book. Easy-peasey to find.

Generally I hate acronyms because even in circles where it's standard operating SOP to use them, newcomers are sh1t out of SOL if they don't know the lingo.

Disadvantages...
1.)It's shortest adjustable length is a little longer than the whoopies
2.)might take a few minutes longer to make.
3.)Whoopie Sling is more fun to say!!!

I'll counter with although I know what a UCR is, I don't know what it stands for. So I would be unable to spell it out so to speak. I also don't think it's a secret handshake.

Most people in this forum are more than willing to answer any newcomers question if they need clarification on terms.

3 more successful nights hanging on UCR's. I've been putting tape on them to see if theres been any slipping of any kind. None what so ever. I couldn't be happier!!!!!

I've long abandoned whoopies for ucrs. The shortest my ucrs go is far shorter than any set of whoopies ive had.

I've been so happy with the setup I made another set in Dynaglide.

Rather than a prussik I use a taught line hitch and put a whipping wrap on the ucrs just before the hitch. At the other end of the bury I put a barrel knot and another whipping just before the barrel. These help keep tension on the ends of the bury.

The hammock connection is an Amsteel diamond knot spliced to Dynaglide using an Albright knot. The diamond knot gets captured by the Dynaglide CLs on the hammock, secured by a sliding locked whipping knot on the CL.

I've never had one slip. Super lite. Low bulk. No hardware. Modular. Zero downside as I see it.

If the hang is short I skip the ucrs and take the tree strap direct to the CLs.
