Hello Fron the Triangle of NC

Hello everyone I'm new to the forum but no stranger to sleeping in the woods.

I started backpacking, canoeing and camping over 55 years ago. I've struggled with serious health issues in the last 6 years and after many surgeries I can no longer carry any weight or walk for long distances. So I've gone back to kayaking to get outdoors. I wanted to do an overnight trip to kayak and fish and my old UL tent was trash from being stored in the stuff sack too long.

I have really enjoyed my Brazilian hammock on the porch for a long time so I decided to try a hammock instead of a new tent. I purchased an Outpost II double on a Woot 50% off deal. So far I've only slept out on the porch for a few nights but it's been amazing. I'm just learning about suspension, ridge lines etc as far as the rest of sleeping in the woods I've done numerous 7+ day solo trips so not a problem.

I'm planning my first overnight float in a couple of weeks. Maybe I'll even catch a few fish.

Welcome from a fellow kayaker from Clayton. What river are you planning to float?

Cape Fear from Buckhorn Dam to Lillington with a stop at Raven Rock for the night. It can be done easily in a day but I plan to do a lot of fishing and stretch it to an overnighter.
I haven't checked to see if they have restrictions on hammock camping at Raven Rock yet.

Sounds like a fun time. If Raven Rock is a state park, there should be no hammock restrictions. I haven't hung or paddled that area.

Raven Rock is a State Park. From the Website

    Paddle-in camping
Six campsites along the Cape Fear River Canoe Trail offer accommodations for canoeists.

Located beside the river in a low-lying area, these sites include fire rings and a vault toilet. The canoe camping area is 1.7 miles from the park office and is not accessible by car.

Welcome from Fuquay Varina. No issues with hammocks at Raven Rock SP, just mosquitoes this time of year.

I have my DIY Caughlin's double bug net I just wrap around the ridge line. My hammock is so deep it doesn't get in my face.
