    I never ended up implementing the OP's method. Instead, I simply added about 3" loop of shock cord between my tarp and my amsteel with a whoopy-style slider (where I slide the end of the amsteel through the core of itself, making an adjustable loop). This has given me all the flexibility that I need, plus the shock cord really helps keep tension on the tarp.

    Yeah this is probaly what I'll do on mine, it is just a little more simple.
