Kohl's "down-alternative" comforter becomes quilt set

So, yesterday Kohl's was selling their "Big One" down-alternative comforters (all sizes) for $29.99.

Today I have a $30 summer-weight quilt set for my wife, who is allergic to down.

I used a king-sized comforter, scissors, a thread injector, kam-snaps, grosgrain, a set of 1/16" uq clews (too heavy for the Gemini), and a few choice words. (If you study the photos you'll probably recognize that I lack adequate space, adequate tools, and adequate skills to take on jobs like this. Nevertheless, I persisted). The design draws heavily on (i.e., steals from) leiavoia's awesome Gemini UQ design.

Still to come is my wife's underquilt protector, whose design is stolen from kitsapcowboy.

You guys rock! Thanks, and happy Independence Day.

PS: Those are plastic drink straws on the clew nettles--intended to keep them from getting tangled up. They'll come off before we head up to the Adirondacks.

I like the way you think. That's an economical solution for sure, and it matches so it looks good too.

Awesome setup. If you look around and "persist", there are so many alternative options to getting it done.

And the best part is "you saved $85 today!" on that

(just a little Kohl's pricing joke)

What do these things weigh in their off-the-shelf state?

Don't have a reliable scale to say for sure. At least 4 lbs. The documentation says it contains 2 lb. 15 oz. of polyester fill.

I cut the comforter in half at the midpoint of the long axis. Then. with each half, I shortened the new long axis by removing the last row of squares (i.e., reduced the overall size/weight by 1/6).

It is not light, but it's lighter than it was.
