Hump to the Bump 2018 Pics

pic posting failure. Now how to rotate?

A few hearty souls braved the 95 degree heat and 100 % humidity to hang at Da Bump near Da Shack July 2018. Back deep in the woods is a small hill near the Griffin Springs in Portage County Wisconsin. The hike was short, the bugs were bearable, the hanging was creative, and the swimming at Sunset Lake was awesome, with spectacular views and perfect water. The beers, were tasty and the conversations perfect.

You have to do it to have the memories. They last longer than the discomfort. Franks homemade burrito was super.

Thanks T for putting in the effort to get the site cleared out and for all the other prep work! Couldn't sum it up any better than you did! You DA MAN!

Had to stay home this weekend, but looked up the route on Google Earth. Looks like a great area in the summer - almost as good as winter. Thanks for the pics.

    Couple questions...

What side of the Griffin Springs is Da Bump?

Also - do IAT hikers have to road walk Hwy T, Hwy MM, and Soltenberg Rd to rejoin the trail or is there an unofficial route on private land? Just curious.

Griffin Creek Springs are in our woods at Da Shack. The footbridge crosses the creek. Da Bump is south of the springs by about 100 feet.

Regarding the IAT, there was a time when the IAT did the bypass/roadwalk that you are referring to. The signs for this detour have not been removed.

Now if hiking the IAT, it is a simple matter of following the ribbons they installed which guide a person through the woods from the Iola Winter sports club grounds (lots of free parking), to Stoltenberg road, turning north rather than south, again following the ribbons, through our property to highway T, crossing T and continuing the IAT northward crossing Krogwold Road, and highway Z, and ending at New Hope Pines about 2 miles north of Sunset Lake. This hike ends up being about 5 miles give or take.

If you are at the New Hope Segment of the IAT and face EAST, you can see the ribbons on our birch trees about 1/8 mile up the tractor path along side the field.

The entire section of bypass you described is thus eliminated.

The toughest part of this segment of the IAT are the seven hills that challenge you. They are located between highway T and Krogwold Road. Everything else is easy peasy.

Thanks for the info. Google Earth shows 7 different satellite photos of Da Shack land going back to 1992. Da Shack is visible in the 2005 view. No other views between 1992 and 2005. Must have been top secret stuff going on.
