DIY UQ Experiment from an old sleeping bag...

    Hi folks!

I have an old sleeping bag that seems to be a 20* mummy bag w/o a zipper. It usually accompanied me on tent and van camping trips in the past.

Having recently discovered hammocks, I was looking to turn this sleeping bag into a DIY repurpose-capable under-quilt. I was thinking of running 1/8" bungee line down each side of my GT Skeeter Beeter and a loop around both ends of the gather in the hammock. I thought 2 conventional tarp clips at both the head/foot corners along with a couple on the sides would be an attach point for #1 s-biners. I'm hoping it gives me adjustability front to back if needed. I'd like to avoid making permanent changes to the bag for now in case I decide to install a repair zipper.

Anybody tried something like this? Looking for some tips/guidance.

    Happy Hanging!

I made one of the quilts described in the following Hammock Forums post.

I bet that you could use the Gemini technique with the KAM snaps to attach your sleeping bag to the klews. It would probably work better if the bag were rectangular, but even a mummy bag would probably work. You would not have to tear the stitches out of the mummy bag. That was the most time consuming task in the process. Give it some thought.

My Gemini underquilt is made from two costco quilts, and I have used it with temps as low as 35 with no problem. I should probably find a used rectangular bag on EBAY and do this.

    Holy Cow!

Ag, Thanks! That is an even better plan than I had. That is pure Gemini genius! Whoever wrote that article did an awesome job.

So now I can use the old sleeping bag with a few of those cool snaps as a top quilt with a snap together foot box. Then I can make the underquilt setup as described. In the spring/early summer I can use a woobie instead of the sleeping bag.

    Happy Hanging!
