Question Repairing a continuous loop that you pulled the end out because you're not very smart

Hey! Just bought a couple continuous loops from DutchWare.

Within seconds of looking at them, I pulled the end out of one kinda wondering to myself "can this loop resize?".

That's because I really didn't know much about loops, heh, but in a purchase of other things I threw a couple of them in my cart.

Here's an image of my busted one, and an intact one.

So I watched a couple of videos related to building your own, but the _end step_ of them wasn't related to tucking in a final loose end.

So a thing I realize is, that bit hanging out needs to run its full length in the other side, where it once was. I'm curious what recommendations you may have to make this easier. At the moment I don't know if I have anything in my house that'd help. I might have to pick up a needle or something?

    Cheers and thanks

Shmup, yes re-splice that one cord in direction it’s pointing.
Match it up to circular part and notice where it ends—then when splicing, splicing tool or wire should be inserted an inch beyond loose cord’s length. So that end of loose cord won’t stick out of circular part.

If I want to do neat work, after splicing, if it looks good, I un-splice both loose cords and apply a small amount of flexible waterproof cloth glue to loose cord near locked brummel. Then I pull splice through and milk bury and wipe off any excess glue that got on circular part.
That way it won’t get undone again.

Dutch sells splicing tools. And you can use wire that has right combination of flexibility and stiffness for splicing. I just got some wire for splicing. And I hope I got right kind of wire.
You can double your wire and use the doubled end to pull amsteel through itself.
Some have used guitar string for splicing tool.
I wish I could tell you the correct gauge wire.

Either use Hammock Forums search function or use browser search function and it will usually bring you back to Hammock Forums threads you are seeking.

I bought a largish yarn sewing needle for $1.50 at A.C Moore. For longer pulls I have used floral wire. $2.50 for 150 ft. It’s 24 gauge. Cut the length you need and you will have more for future mistakes...er...projects.

No big deal. Another easy free tool is just a thin gauge piece of wire folded in half to make a loop. I use a piece of brass wire that is 20 gauge. Floral wire will also work and if you go to your local florist or grocery flower department they probably will give you a 10-20" piece. Then just fold it in half. Work the loop end into the line well down the length have it pop out next to the loose end. Thread the loose end in the loop and gently work the wire back out pulling the loose end back in.

Good luck but this really not that hard.

Repairing a continuous loop that you pulled the end out because you're not very smart

I’ve tried those fancy splicer tools with the hook that flips up and down. Might be called a turner? I personally didn’t like it. I tried some guitar string folded in half and that works nicer, but I wish I had something that formed a handle on the other end for easier pulling. So it would probably be best to make a wooden handle for it.

I used the gauge that’s used for the high E string, it’s strong enough, but I bet the next step up would be better. That’s for 7/64”. Zing it, might be a different story.

I drilled a hole in a thick piece of dowel. Pulled the wire through, wrapped it once or twice, and covered with a couple wraps of electrical tape. It’s not pretty but it works well.

I used a paper clip and it worked great for zing it and amsteel.

I found these at Walmart. They work well with 7/64" Amsteel . . . especially the second one from the left.
