    New (soon-to-be) Hanger in Utah!

    Good morning tree folk!
Let me start off by saying, I can be very impressionable.
With that out of the way, I can proceed. I've always loved the outdoors and have been camping and hiking since before I could walk. The past few years have been too busy with school and family and haven't gotten out much.
I've recently gotten the itch to go backpacking again, so I headed to YouTube to get some tips for getting back at it. After a bunch of Bushcraft videos and then some podcasts, I decided that hammock camping sounds fun. That lead to research of hammocks, which then lead me to the DIY option. I love working with my hands and making things, so the DIY is very appealing. And all that has lead me here!
I've got the $10 DIY kit on it's way from ripstopbytheroll and look forward to making some stuff sacks, then later hope to make my first hammock! One day I'll make my own quilts too! I'm excited to try this new version of the backpacking and camping I have loved since I was a kid!
Anyone know if there are any hangs happening in Utah or in nearby states?

Welcome from a fellow Utahn! Probably a good thing you're interest is piqued by DIY-- hammock camping gear can be a veritable rabbit hole, you should save a lot by making your own gear.

I don't know anything about nearby hangs (I've seen them happen in Arizona and Idaho, not sure if I've seen any Utah hangs in the last couple years). Don't let it stop you from getting out and hanging, though

    HEEEEYYYYY!!!

Glad to see another Utahn! Ya, I can see how this rabbit hole could run deep. (not my first rabbit hole... )

Well, if there haven't been any hangs in utah recently, maybe we'll have to have our own. Maybe something simple to start.

Welcome from (also) Utah! The DIY bug can and probably will get you. I kind of started off with the same things, the DIY kit from RSBTR, and went on to make several hammocks, tarps, UQ, TQ, bags, organizers, etc. It seems there is always another project waiting to be done.

I don't know of any group hangs recently in Utah, and none planned that I know of. I've toyed with the idea of going to some of them in Idaho and Arizona.

    Anyway, welcome to the group!

    HEEEYYYY!!!

Ya, I see myself falling headfirst into this once I finish college and have the time for it. For now, Its the DIY kit and then a hammock. Just to get my toes wet.

We should definitely do a hang here some time Even if its just at a park or picnic site up a canyon

Welcome from another Utah DIYer. Good luck with your projects. There does seem to be more and more Utahns on here, a group hang might be fun.

We have had a few hangs in UT but not very many folks from UT showed up. A friend and I planned the first one that had about 10 folks, half or so from UT. A year later we planned another and had folks from all over but only 1 or 2 from UT. It's been a while and a few others have tried organizing a few but not much response. We try and have a couple a year up here in ID but with other things going on this year I am taking at least part of the year off from organizing them. Lots of folks in the SL Valley though so not sure why it's hard to get a good sized group together.

That's to bad. It'd be hard to keep hangs going if not many people are coming. Sounds like overall there was a good showing though. Where would you guys do the hangs?

Welcome from another Utahan! I've been wondering about local hangs as well. I could be convinced to spearhead one, but having never been to one, I'm not sure if there's a format to follow.
