    CL attachment

My Trail Lair came to me with continuous loops and no suspension. I attached rappelling rings with a larks head to the hammock's loops. I then attached the loops from the cinch buckles to the rings with another larks head. While bored one day I decided to remove the rings and attach the cinch buckle loop directly to the hammock loop with a larks head saving a few ounces. Is it OK to use it that way? I'm concerned that the rope on rope will cause damage.

Can you take out the continuous loops and thread the cinch buckle loops directly through the ends of your hammock?

I'm not sure. I'll look when I get home. (Why didn't I think of that?)

No rope on rope damage, larks heading amsteel to amsteel or amsteel to tree straps.
Abrasion damage would be caused by movement, one rope sliding across another while under load.
Or parts of a hitch or knot sliding on itself as the knot tightens and slides while being loaded.

That makes sense. I noticed when I removed the rings that the line was flattened where it touched the ring but it "fluffed" back into shape.

Spickus, I think flattening can weaken amsteel.
Is it still weak after no longer flat? I don’t know.
I’ve never had 1/8 amsteel fail from a knot that did not move.
While playing with an amsteel suspension using a slip and grip amsteel hitch on an amsteel continuous loop. The slip and grip SLIPPED under load and burned my amsteel——-it was singed black. You’d think I’d be smarter after that——-
    Uh no

I looked at the hammock when I got home. After pulling my head out of my butt I unhooked the cinch buckle continuous loop from the hammock continuous loop. I slid the cinch buckle loop out of the way. I then larks headed the hammock loop directly to the cinch buckle. I left the very short cinch buckle loop in place until I decide if this is permanent. They can be cut off later if I decide they're in the way.

I avoid rope on rope connection. (that's why there's Dutch hardware)

Often times, the primary purpose of hardware is simply to act as a water break and to allow for removing the potentially wet or sappy suspension during storage. The next big reason is to avoid using knots, which require skill and weaken the line. Like Grappler said, knots that don’t have any moving parts aren’t going to introduce any abrasion concerns.
