Hammock camping in Croatan national forest-Gunner?

I'm going down to new Bern, NC next week to work on my boat and get it in the water. Instead of paying $100 plus a night for a hotel, I figured camping would be a much cheaper alternative. Probably hot and buggy but cheaper nonetheless. Was wondering which campground or spot around the Croatan forest would be best with tree's to hammock. I know Gunner lives nearby and maybe give me some insight. Anyone else with thoughts or idea's can chime in also.
