Hanging at Stratton Pond tentsite in Vermont

Hi all, I will be backpacking into Stratton Pond tentsite in Vermont with my Girl Scout troop and I know there are tent platforms but not sure if there are good tree pairs near the tent platform sites. Anyone been there to let me know? I will likely have 2 hammocks. Not sure if the sites are in the woods or out in the open. Thanks all.

Hanging at Stratton Pond tentsite in Vermont

Stacy there are plenty of trees to hang from at the North Tent site at Stratton Pond. Raiffnuke myself and others have gone up there multiple times. You will be goor for about 10 or so hammocks. Probably more. The sites themselves sit back about 100 feet from the shoreline in the woods. There is a privy but no bear box.

Great! I wasn't sure if perhaps the trees might be too close and the underbrush too dense, with the tent platforms out in the open. Sounds like it will be great! 2 of my Girl Scouts love sleeping in my WBBB. As long as they carry it in (which they will), they can use it.

Thanks for all your info guys. My Girl Scouts (9 and 10 years old rocked this weekend). They held their own and set a blistering pace and did all the work from setting up camp, hanging bear bags to setting up stoves filtering water and lighting fires. All I had to do was tell them what to do and they did it. They even initiated the chores once they got the hang of it. They did a hike up Stratton Mountain too in crummy weather with hail at the top on the fire tower. They even got to see a Bull Moose, but the best of all was the dead otter being eaten by maggots. They thought that was way cool.

For all who may be interested. Big changes are coming to the Stratton Pond area for camping. The North Shore tent site is closed and that trail is gone. The Stratton view tent site (which on the map is now called North Shore tent site) is close to the lye brook trail and is small and up from the pond in the woods on a little hill. There are no tent platforms. There is a defunct wet willy, and an outhouse. I found only 3 good tree pairs to hang from (for a longer hammock and fly). Eventually this site will also have a shelter and a mouldering toilet. and the area around the pond will be closed this will happen in stages in the next couple years per the Long Trail news from the GMC. I saw the orange tape where they will be rerouting the trail away from the pond. They will also be adding a new shelter and more tenting areas along with a mouldering toilet near the current Stratton Shelter on the AT, and will reroute a portion of the Lye Brook trail away from a very eroded area of the pond.
