    Pulled the trigger

After much thought and consideration, I finally ordered the dynema fiber palace tarp. That was a tough pill to swallow! Never would have imagined in a million years to spend that kind of money on a tarp!
But, in trying to lighten my load and get my pack weight down, I really had no other choice. Heck, just by switching out tarps, I've already lost like 9 ounces....thats 1/2 pound!
I know I'll love it once I get it.

I have the standard cf and I smile every time I set it up :-) Probably my favorite piece of gear. You'll forget about the price soon enough, well worth it.

Yeah, I've kind of forgot about the price already. I just want to get my base weight low and I guess you have to pay. I carry some heavy items that I'm not willing to part with, like my 1lb backpacking chair. It just makes my old back and knees feel so much better after a long hike. So if I carry some heavy luxury items, then i have to lose some weight somewhere else. The only thing I could think of was dyneema. So I had to pay the price. I may get a backpack with the same material too, but I'll have to wait on that a bit.

That is nice! Hope you enjoy it a bunch! I like to save weight too, but I love my helinox chair zero!
    Congrats for your new tarp!

Yes, I love that chair too and that's why I needed to save some weight somewhere else. That chair was priceless when I had to cook under it during a snow storm.

Let us know how this baby packs down when you get it. I'm about ready to go for another Cuben but I want the Winter Palace but worry it will take up too much room in the pack.

Will do! Yes, I'm anxious about the size too.

I still can't pull the trigger lol. I've been looking forever, but I'm not to the point yet. I wish DIYing one was significantly cheaper than just buying but it really isn't.

Yeah, I was looking, listing and dreaming forever too, but I HAD to start getting my pack weight down and I thought that this was a good way. I'm losing about 1/2 pound. I'm not trying to be an ultra lightweight backpacker, but turning 50 in a few days now, I just want to be comfortable. Unfortunately, if that means I have to spend a lot of money on some gear, then so be it as this has become my sole hobby now and I can concentrate on what I think I should buy to make it as light and comfortable as possible.

Congrats on the new tarp. Let me know how that dynema works out. I couldn't do the standard CF because I felt the rain was to loud on the tarp and it kept me up.
