Hello,I just started looking at all of these and have some questions. I'm relatively new here, but have hanging experience.

    • How do you know how long to cut the ridge pole?
    • I have a 11' long hammock, but use a ridge line that makes it ~110".
    • Also I was wondering, can you make the tripod part of this stand shorter? I live in an apartment and would love to hang inside, but don't want to put holes in the walls. This could work.

Any info here would be great.
    Thanks!
    J

    Hey Remy4,

    Welcome to this site.

Search under Turtle Dog Stand, here, there is a massive thread that has an incredible amount of info/pics and some video links, that will line you out. Search Turtle Lady Stand also and there is even more info to help you. Basically the TL Stand is portable. The TD stand is not so much.

I read all of both threads, which took days. I then built my Turtle Dog Stand in about 1.5 hours. Took me longer to find the materials at Lowes/Home Depot, than it took me to build it.

    Have fun.

BTW I LOVE my TD Stand. I dont have adequate trees, so it allows me to hang at night, for a quick "Staycation". It also allows me to test out gear prior to using it in the woods.

For a light weight version, these poles could help. More expoensive but lighter weight. You can find them individually at Home Depot and Menards for $20ish each. These are for extension handles for cement floats; so you will find them in the cement tools area.

Went out today and bought the parts for my first turtledog. I am trying out one for my 80lb daughter first so I can work out the kinks before I build one for my significantly heavier self. I will update when it is actually built.

Went with the angled tops, 2x2's, 4" heavy duty hinge, 10' top rail, quick links, and eyebolts.

Well, that went bad quickly. Turns out the 19v circular saw I have at home doesn't cut through 2x2's the blade isn't quite big enough. Who'd have thunk? So back to the drawing board to figure out how to fix the wood I butchered and how to get it cut.
