Getting ready for our California trip, realizing that California may not always have trees to hang from, we did what we do best and adapted. We saw our friend who made her hammock stand and posted on her Facebook page, and then we went and watched the video she sent me. Which small world was from another friend of mine who told us about hammockforms.net! We made 4 Turtle Dog Hammock stands for the family. We can now hang where ever we go!!! Camping on our own and with our scouts will now be family accessible no matter what!!! We got them all set up and until I started getting cold I didn't want to get out! Soooo comfy!!!! My family all worked on them as a family! What a great accomplishment!!!! I have been searching here to make under quilts for us to test out on our camp out next weekend and then to Cali not long after that!!!! So excited that I don't have to look forward to a painful experience getting up off the ground anymore!!!

If the wind is blowing, I just divide my hammock into thirds and using paracord or similar, tie an overhand knot, around the hammock fabric. That way the hammock doesnt turn into a sail and pull down the TDS.

For a little extra piece of mind, instead of the sleeve that you got rid of anyways, I wrap the top rail connections with a strip of duct tape. Honestly, I probably dont need that either but it gives me a little piece of mind. I fold over one edge of the duct tape for simple removal upon the takedown of the stand.

    Be safe all.

I thought of doing the same thing with the tape. But after a few nights in this thing without it, it really isn't necessary.

On the contrary, this stand is super stable while your in it. Only in high winds when your hammock is on it and your not is there an issue.

That powder coating is a nice touch, really gives it a finished look.

Quick question chaps, and I’m sure it’s all over the other turtle dog thread, but how does everyone attach there tarps to the stand?
And for an 11 foot hammock, is a 12ft ridge pole ok?
    Cheers

Ridge pole isn't dependent on the hammock, it's dependent on the tarp if your using one with it

I get ya, I’m using a superfly, have absolutely no idea lol!!
But my other light weight tarp is a 3m x 3m which is 10ft.
So what size is recommended please?

Just make sure ridge pole is long enough to hang your tarp. Set it up, or lay it out on the floor and measure. Its usually set up on the diagonal, so measure it that way. I made mine 1' longer so I had 6" on each side to spare. my tarp was 12' diagonal, I made my ridge pole 13'. worked out perfect

The plain galvanized works and is less expensive but I like the finish look too!
