Yes it will work. It's the only way I do it. Broke a few sticks as toggles and went to biners instead.

If you are using it as an attachment device and not as a toggle, then yes, it should be climbing rated.

I get it. No problems as others have said.

OK, however two climbing biners, even lightweight wire-gates, are going to weigh about 3-4oz...

Two soft shackles are going to weigh 0.3-0.4oz...

    Two J-Bends weigh 0.0oz.

HYOH and all that, but still good to know a few back-up hitches/knots if you ever lose a biner.

extra tent stakes can be used as toggles, or a 4 inch long stick as thick as your thumb.

I sometimes hang in the cabin living room. So, I tried the 'biner. It is a great idea. And, the 'biner can have another function, while a toggle is less likely to have another use.

Not necessarily. Climbers demand light equipment as well. I believe I saw some that were about 3/4oz that looked sufficient before I settled on some by Black Diamond that are 1oz each.

Here’s what I used as my toggle last weekend.

I just pick up a stick that’s lying around - no weight to carry at all.

As long as you’re hanging from the knot and not the toggle then almost anything will do.
