    Video: Roan Highlands overnighter

I was able to spend a night in the hammock this past week after dropping my daughter off for a college orientation thing in Boone.

Lacey my beagle went along and enjoyed herself though she did get quite muddy. Good thing I brought some towels to clean off the water and mud.

It was a short trip but great to get out in the woods no matter how long.

Trail details: I parked at the end of Roaring Creek road, which is around 1 mile from Overmountain shelter (the red barn). Hiked up Little Hump and Hump.

Looks like a great overnighter... looks like you pooch enjoyed it too. I love taking our dog along on trips. They love being out on the trail too!

Best of luck to your daughter while off at school.

Thanks. My daughter starts in the fall - last one out of the nest. Not sure if I’ll be sad or excited - probably both.

Those day time views across the Roans are stunning. Nothing like spring in the mountains. Watching Lacey explore and have a general good time reminded me of trips I've taken with my Walker hound Ben. Dogs can be good company.

Enjoyed listening to the rain on your tarp. Nothing better for sleeping than the sound of rain on the tarp. Only trouble is dealing with a wet tarp the next morning.

    Thanks for sharing the trip.

Really enjoyed the video as always. Lacey looks like she had a blast! I need to get back out to that area!

Last time I was up there, a blizzard came in...no views. Great to know what I missed . My Lab would not be avoiding the water and mud, he would be playing in it.
