If you haven't bought your hammock yet, and you're interested in trying the HH Expedition, you can borrow mine (as long as you're not camping at the same time as me!). That'll keep your cost down for the first trip, and also help you choose and/or eliminate one hammock.

If it ever clears Customs, I have a Dutch xenon hex on the way, which you're also welcome to use. I don't have any quilts to offer (I'm just using the pad and sleeping bag I already own---to save my own $$$).

I don't know enough about this forum to know how you would contact me, but if you're interested, write back here, and I'll get you my contact info.
    PMed you!

Remember...what ever route you take with your gear ( and I hope you go hammock ), be sure to test your set up under controlled conditions so if your set up does not work as planned then you have a place to escape to. If you do not have a yard to set up in then find a place you go on a day hike and set up your gear and practice like you were going to spend the night. I always test my new gear in my backyard before heading out into the woods with said gear and sometimes everything works like its suppose to....some times it does not.
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !

While I agree that hammock setups and ground-based setups for one person are similar weights, the whole equation changes when there are two of you and you're sharing a t*nt.

Thanks so much and I love reading about this community!
I think I spent 60 days outside at home before I ever went on an overnight.

Whatever gear you decide on...practice at home in different temperatures and weather conditions.

You can always come inside if you mess up.

As someone who also has to deal with the Canadian Dollar vs USD exchange rate and customs duties, might I suggest you check out 'Little Shop of Hammocks as it's based in Saskatoon?

    https://www.littleshopofhammocks.com

James ('Firesong' here on the forum) was very helpful to me in selecting my hammock and I know he makes quilts. I can't comment on them as I don't have one but certainly worth a look. If you decide to go that route, please let me know how it pans out as there are quilts in my future.

Hi. Just noticed this huge thread! Looking for gear is exciting and confusing

I’m located in Canada and can help you out as well. Feel free to send me an email. [email protected]
May be able to find something that fits you nicely without worrying about customs and the exchange rate.

probably anything i would say had been said above... don't have time to read them all, guessing there'll be some overlap. if nobody has mentioned it already, look for Shugs video about hanging in -40°F. It changed my life goals.
