I have a dropcloth on the ground, just set my boots on it. Grew up in the desert, shake my boots out before putting them on. Hanging them from the ridgeline is no go, don't have laces. I also carry "camp shoes", they go on the dropcloth as well, if I remember to get them out of the panniers. Skeeter hell prevented me from doing so the last night of hammocking this most recent trip.

My shoes are keep on my sit pad under my hammock, or tied to the ridge line (in or out of hammock) or on the tarp line. Or like this, tied to my spider suspension while hanging in an AT shelter

How nice -- you made condos for the animals.

I normally keep them directly under my hammock with my socks rolled up (after drying) in them to keep critters out. If I have my hammock chair with me then I'll use it as a gear sling.

Hang my boots over the ridgeline by the laces. If it's raining and my rainfly won't fully cover i'll throw them in my pack with raincover on. Keep my camp slippers in the hammock with me.
