I moved from Silnylon to Silpoly to cuben and at this point, I could not be happier. I haven't used the Palace that much but I will this winter. I used the Standard with doors right through last winter and never looked back.

Once the initial hit to the wallet becomes a distant memory, it's all upside. I worried about the pack volume and that was for naught.. they pack down just fine. I am continually amazed by how strong the DCF is. It's no louder than silpoly. And when it does get wet, it dries incredibly fast.

From time to time I lust over one more DCF tarp, without doors, but then I come to my senses... at 8 ounces or so (might be 9) kitted out and in snake skins, there's no reason to have yet another one without doors. I keep the doors rolled most of the time. When I want it more open I go to QuarterBack mode.

Given the discussions about cutting pack weight, it would seem a win-win. GearGrams says my Superfly was 20.5 oz. My Mamajamba was 15 oz. The Standard is actually 8.99 oz and the Palace is 12.2 oz.
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

I'm really considering the DCF more for water resistance than lightweight. My silpoly tarps look like someone dumped a bottle of Mazola all over them after a rain. I would have just kept the nylon had I known this. I replaced all three nylon with poly in the blink of an eye.

Any chance of a closeup on that tarp in the background? Maybe that's what mine looks like give or take some.

That's why I switched. I was sick of my Superfly becoming a5lb sponge every time it rained. Now it's not an issue and I can rub up against the inside of my tarp without getting wet which was huge for me

I agree. Others keep trying to convince me that it was condensation. I finally quit arguing with them and just enjoy my dry (inside) tarp.

Thanks for that pic. I guess it's pretty close to what I see. I just don't remember silnylon being anything like this, but it's been a while now.

Back again. After getting literally 3 minutes of light rain on a 0% night of course, my poly tarp is soaked. Water literally pouring out as it set it up in my basement hours later. This has to be absorbing more than silnylon.

Still hurting for a DCF tarp, but I can't pay it. Still on the maybe list, though.

What Silpoly do you have? They are not all created equal.
