    GS Camp opening trip

We had the pleasure of being invited back up to Camp Natarswi which is one of the Maine Girl Scout summer camps. It is on Lower Togue Pond at the base of Mount Katahdin. Every year they have a Helping Hands weekend where folks come up and help get everything ready for summer camp. It's a ton of work! We Armorall'd the canoes and repaired a couple that had wrecked seats and gashes. Plus a lot of other work cleaning and raking and fixing.

This is an amazing piece of property! Our daughter Artgirl42/Sammy has been blessed to attend this camp for the past few years. Left year she did the Junior Maine Guide program there and it was life changing for her.

So of course, we slept in our hammocks! We brought another girl from her troop and she was the first to use our new guest hammock! It is a Walhalla Hammock & Outdoor Gear hammock with a 40° synthetic UQ and a Yuege 13' tarp. She was toasty warm down to the mid thirties apart from a little foot chill from just not knowing how to tweak things. She did great considering it was her first time in a hammock!

The exciting part was that Thursday night I heard something crash into the water and walk around for a while and then Saturday night we heard a bear walk right through our site!! As in it walked right between my wife and daughter's hammocks confirmed by its huffing along and tracks!

We could see Katahdin from our hammocks. It was amazing. I took pictures with the mountain in the background.

Never been to Maine but would love to visit one day, especially when the leaves are turning!

    Thanks for posting.

And the Old Town canoes will serve the GS's for many more years! I got to fix two beautiful Kevlar canoes they had as well. Wanted to bring one of those home with me...

Great report, and kudos for doing good things!

The canoes made me think of Song of the Paddle and yearn for a canoe trip with friends in Algonquin.
