    big guy hammock suspension

I am making my dad (AKA big tuna) a hammock setup. Any suggestions to a hardy suspension system for the heavier folks, something with real low stretch is really key because most poly webbing is 1500 lbs rated if I recall right. Packability, weight, etc are of no concern.

    Thanks folks.

@ my previous weight of 280 (now @ 220) I used whoopie slings with straps on some hammocks & 1" webbing & buckles from Dutch on others. No problem with either. I prefer the straps & buckles. There will be a certain amount of streatch/settling with whatever is used.

I'm a big fella myself, and the most bomb-proof and versatile suspension I've found is polyester webbing and Warbonnet-style cinch buckles.

I like to use 15’ sewn loop 1” webbing from Dream Hammock. I have continuous loops on hammock then use Dream Hammock’s multi-buckle. I found that since I am a really big guy (365 lbs)that I tear up the webbing with cinch buckles. I bet if you email Papasmurf at Dream Hammock he’d tell ya what I use.

Dutch has 3000lb poly that works great with cinch buckles. You may also want to consider 1/8 cl's vs 7/64.

My brother has pushed north of 265 at times and he uses normal 1" polywebbing and whoppies on a dutchware whoopie hook. I can't speak to it's long term durability as we put it together last year but no issues so far. Even if the whoopies get chewed up each year and need to be replaced that's no big deal. A length of cordage is < $6 and would take a few minutes to make a replacement set.

Even at a weight of 400 lbs and a bad hanging angle of 15 degrees instead of the ideal 30 degrees the straps only see about 750 lbs of force. Well within all the pieces weight range and with some safety margin left. At the better 30 degree angle it drops to 400 lbs of force.

Like squid mentioned if your still worried Dutch sells a 3000 lb strap set, mate it with some buckles and 1/8 amsteel rated for 2500 lbs and the only "weak" point is the buckle.

as a self professed LARDUSS BOTTOMUSS MAXIMUSS(275#±) i swapped out the stock suspension on my Hennessee Safari Deluxe for a self created system that still utilizes the Hennessee tree straps along with Whoopies made w/ 7/64" Amsteel Blue

i incoorporated marine(used for sailing trapeeze connections) stainless steel rings at the ends of the hammock itself so i can easily disconnect the whoopies(larks headed to the rings) when they get wet for separate drying

SO FAR i have knot experienced a case of sudden impact w/ terra firma

I'm 350 and use 1'' strapos and 7/64 amsteel whoopies. No issues ever. Very rigid setup.
I would rather be in the woods... my dog would rather be in the pool. My wife thinks we are both nuts.

An easy fix would be to order a set of python straps from Kammock, and use a small biner on each end of your hammock. Not the lightest set up, but its so simple that its really foolproof and very secure. Im a big boy too, and this system works.
