Does anyone here have actual knowledge of a person being shot while lying in a hammock? If a person were to mistake a hammock for a deer, then he certainly is not a hunter. Most of us who enjoy dispersed camping like to be away from others and out of view. Also, I've never heard that bright orange or canary yellow can stop bullets.

Go subdued color/camo. If your worried about either not spotting your own hang after a jaunt in the woods or it being hunting season, buy a yard of blaze orange and sew 2 triangles. One for you as a bandanna and one as a spotting flag for your hang while your away on a hike.... ain't no rump humpin' in da woods since The Deliverance! Besides....that was Arkansas!

Bright light colors help an itchy triggered hungry hunter know your not dinner. They call them hunting accidents for a reason...
The turn signal on a car is not an indicator that your changing lanes, its a warning signal BEFORE and during a lane change. It is done as a precaution, just like wearing bright colors in the woods during hunting season.

Been a hunter and hanger for many years. Never shot a hammock.
Hunting Accident? If you set a firearm down and it goes off, that's an accident. ANYTHING else is stupidity!

I heard a story about a kayaker with a camo kayak trying to portage. He wasn't sure which way to go so he left is kayak on the "path" to scout it out. It took 2 min to find the way back to the river around the rapid and half an hour to find his kayak where he had left it. I make my hammocks bright colors so I can find it among the woods and all the other hammocks.
The essential part of me can not be discussed here. Ask me in person.

That’s funny, I heard a story about a guy who worked at the Empire State Building, went to lunch and couldn't find his way back. Must have been a kayaker.
Spent some time in Southeast Asia back in the 60’s, always found my way back without deploying bright colors. Were people shooting at me? Yep, but I'm pretty sure they didn’t think I was a deer.

    Hang your own color…

I am not worried about wild life where I am from, nor being shot by a hunter. I am worried about people damaging my equipment (kids) or stealing it (if they knew how expensive it is). I choose colours that are neutral and blends with the surrounding. I frequently wild camp nowadays
