My normal procedure has always been to carry the hammock in the waterproof liner with the quilts.
My cook kit and fuel go in one of the awesome side pockets on the ULA Circuit. The tarp and a bag holding the suspension, spare line, stakes, etc go in the other outer pocket.Everything that goes in the outer pockts gets attached to the pack side straps with a carabiner on the draw string for the bag.

Apparently I failed to biner the little bag with the suspension and it popped out on the trail, most likely when I adjusted my pack a bit.So from now on the tarp and suspension bag will go in the big stretchy back pocket at the bottom so that won't happen again.Less important items will go in the side pocket.

Lesson learned................be sure you don't lose your suspension. It could have been disastrous but my hiking partner saved the day by scavenging his own equipment to keep me off the ground. Thanks again Mr. Hornblower!

Thank you for watching and reading.

The AT designers understand the strategic use of switchbacks. The BMT designers somehow didn't take that class. That trail is pure evil in spots. Glad you didn't have to do that evil, evil "ground" thing.....

I look forward to doing more of the BMT sometime. Yes, I've heard that the design of the trail is more rugged. As for staying off the ground, we took it as a challenge and enjoyed solving it with the tools at hand. Worst case wouldn't have been too bad as Five Tango could have used his hammock on the ground as a bug bivy covered by his tarp. So there wasn't a whole lot of real danger or even discomfort, only pride at stake.

Thanks for the kind words. It's made me really think about what I carry for extra cordage and I may add another soft shackle just in case.
    "...the height of hammock snobbery!"
