Do you have pictures of your hang? It might help someone on here troubleshoot your ridgeline problem

Tarp was attached to straps as I didn't have anything longer to go round the tree.

Even with the pictures I can't tell what all is going on there.

Suffice to say it could be simplified a lot.

I think the only out of ordinary thing there is the two separate lines coming off the straps to provide structure for the net. And even then, the "structure" is dubious. Can't the net just hang over the ridgeline?

Wait, are those straps on the net that can be tightened to lift it up? Gosh, that's a lot of extra stuff to make the net work.

I thought the theory behind daisy chains is just to clip the carabiner straight into the loops.

The net is integral to the hammock and, as you say, has 3 strips of webbing going across to give the net its structure; tighter the line the higher the net. I'm not sure if I could run the ridgeline through the gathered end and just drape the net on it. I'll check and see.

You are correct but I don't have enough webbing to span the distance between those trees so I bought the whoopie slings to use as extensions (I may look to replacing the daisy chains and just use the whoopie slings). These trees are a bit further away from the house and the noisy airconditioner that kicks in all night to remind me that my wife is nice and cool whilst I sweat to death in the Texas heat The other trees are closer together so I can use just the webbing. My ridgeline was much less taut between the closer together trees.

if those are whoopie slings you are using you should not have any problem spanning the trees in that picture unless you aren't using them correctly. check out this video

unsure whats going on with bug net
but here is what i would do
get rid of whoopies (i hated them from day 1)
use that continuous loop on your hammock ends
put ridge line on the c.l. 's
then buy some cinch bugs from dutch on 15' straps
    makes life soo easy

i started almost same setup as you, much happier now

OK, to simplify things, what you might do is larkshead the whoopies' fixed loops to the hammock CLs, get rid of the extra CLs and Dutch biners (unnecessary!), and use the nano-biners to clip into the daisy chains with the adjustable end of the whoopies running thru the biners. (Some people larkshead the whoopies straight onto the hammock.)
