Do the job? Yes. Doing what its supposed to do is another question.
Assuming you're using a fixed ridgeline that is 83% the length of the 11' hammock (which I think all of Dutch's are), then going "up" the suspension to connect the ridgeline effectively lengthens the geometry of the hammock to now include a portion of the channel loops that would otherwise be a part of the suspension. This makes your 83% short, and therefore, it pulls on your suspension at the connection point and allows the hammock to sag more than it would at what is called "optimal".
