January 2018, Boy Scouts Klondike Derby event at Camp Cowles, Diamond Lake, Northeastern Washington State. 2 days, 2 nights.
We got 8 inches of wet, heavy snow the day before. This was the maiden voyage with my REI Quarter Dome Air Hammock. Set it up in the dark for the first time no problem, but immediately realized I needed to lower the tarp into ultra low mode because of the mixed rain/snow that was falling. The tarp performed great as far as weather protection, but in low mode, there was only room to get in and get out. Which was fine, because on these scout trips, there is no time for hanging out. Go go go all day, and then go to sleep.
Sleep was hard to come by on the first night because of how loud it was with the rain and slush falling out of the trees. One of the tents was hit so hard with slush that it knocked the poles out of the grommets causing it to collapse and have to be re-set up! Turn up the volume...
