My buckles seem to be fraying my polyester webbing.

    Hey everyone,

My buckles seem to be fraying my polyester webbing. I'm not using dutch buckles but I have a pair and I think they are identical to the ones I'm using. I compared them before leaving on my trip.

I'm worried about this affecting the structural integrity of my webbing.

Anyone else experience this? Anyone have a solution?

Is it just one spot? Do you remember any times when you got in the hammock and fell due to the buckle not being straight? The strap could have been cut or weakened from one instance.

If it's happening in multiple spots check the buckle and see if it has square/sharp edges. Or even just a small burr or sharp spot in the corner.

Yes it's happening on multiple spots. On both straps. So you are saying this has never happened to you before?

No I haven't had any issues. My first set is pretty old from 2012 and still looks 100%.

I'm really not sure if this would be a buckle or strap material issue.

It often happens then the buckles are not absolutely straight. Caused a bite and a slip. Even when folks put a slippery half hitch behind buckle it can cause it to skew and often bite the strap like on yours.
Not all buckles are created equally.
I've had the best luck with Warbonnet buckles, Dutchware Titanium buckles and Beetle Buckles.

I have to change straps on my full time sleeper once every couple of years. Nominal slippage, but set in the same place every night results in obvious wear. I have a couple sets of straps dedicated to only trail use and they last for a long time w/o showing wear.

I use the DH buckles, but will be changing to full Ti next time around.
