    Hammock Tie Out Length ?

I just bought my first hammock that uses tie outs to keep the no-see-um netting off my face when sleeping on a diagonal. I have gross grain loops and will use lightweight small split rings to attach a system. Since I leave in two days I wanted to just tie some shock cord to the tie outs for this trip until I get back and can make it look better. Does anyone have any advice on a good length to cut my 1/8" shock cord ? I've never seen them on someone else hammock in person to get an idea of how far away my stakes are supposed to be to make the correct angle (if there is one).Every time that I search both on google and this forum I get results for tarps. Thanks.

Using a 12'x12' tarp over it in standard configuration. I was thinking three to four feet long cords (unstretched length).

I have only slept in mine for 4 nights but I didn't have an issue with net hitting my face at all w/o tie-outs.
I would probably trip over them in the night any way. lol.

That's exactly why I asked about the length of the cords. I didn't want something to trip over when I crawl back in at 2am lol

I saw a shug video attaching "tarp" tie outs using a piece of shock cord attached to cordage.
Probably could use this method with glow wire being the cordage to help with visibility?
Btw, why the shock cord? In the video it was to keep the silnyon tarp tight but
what does it do for the netting? Ty.

The shock cord is to keep you from pulling the gross grain out and ripping your hammock at the stitches. If it was a piece of Zing-It for example there would be no give if you were to push your hammock rearward when sitting and such. It is supposed to pull the netting away from your face to keep the skeeters from being so close. I assume that if you had skin in contact with the netting the skeeters could possibly bite through if they were large enough. Also, the constant buzzing from them would be further away for you when your on a diagonal lay in order to get a more pleasant rest I believe. I noticed that dutch sells hammock tie outs in a shock cord but he doesn't give a length for it.

Your welcome. This is my first time owning a hammock made for a diagonal lay and I haven't spent one night in it yet (will this weekend) so I am still learning about some of this stuff myself.
