    First night in Chameleon Wide

I spent my first night in my Chameleon Wide and only my 3rd night in a hammock outside. I like it a lot. I'm 6'1" and 260 and I had plenty of room to get comfortable with no major issues. I used a Warbonnet Thunderfly tarp, 40 degree Apex Enlightened Equipment Revelation top quilt and Outdoor Vitals 30 degree Aerie under quilt. Temperatures only dropped to the mid 50s but it was breezy but I was very comfortable and cozy warm all night. I was very pleased for my first effort in this hammock. The Apex Revelation is a great quilt. I have used it ground camping and knew it would be fine. I picked up the Aerie under for under quilt for a song but I was a little worried about it. It has sewn through baffles and not a lot of loft. You can see thin spots in it. I'm a warm sleeper and it will probably be fine as a summer quilt for me but I don't think it would be warm at 30 degrees. It will work until I get my Hammock Gear 40 Econ set I have ordered. Can't wait to get out again and fine tune my setup.

The HG Econ 40 UQ is easy to tune to the Chameleon Wide. You will like it.

I should be receiving it by the end of next week so I'll have to make time to get out and try it out. I am pretty lucky that there is a city park just 7 miles from me that has a wooded backpacking campground that offers 21 sites, many which are hammock friendly. It is not heavily used and it's free. I can spend a night there, have breakfast the next morning, break camp and be home by 8:00 am or earlier. I plan on spending many nights there fine tuning my gear and setup before my first major trip to backpack the Grand Island loop trail in August.

Is it a single layer or double? I'm about 245 and keep going back and forth on this issue!

It's a single layer. The Chameleon wide is made with the wide Hexon 1.6 fabric which has a weight rating of 350 lbs.

Yeah, it really is a great place and I am fortunate it's so close. Here is another site, in the same campground, that I stayed at last week.

Awesome. Glad you like it. My next hammock will probably be a wide chameleon. I'm hoping to try a wide lay hammock at a hang soon as I've never been in a wide before.
Good to here the econ 40* works well with the chameleon as I have one.
I'm only 5'9 and 165lbs so just wondering if the wide would be to much. Also any thoughts on double layer to keep the skeeters from nipping?

Regular or wide would have to be your choice. My best guess is you would probably be perfectly happy with the regular width. Maybe you can find someone with them that you can try. I have never had an issue with mosquitoes biting through a single layer hammock but I am relatively new and have limited time in them outside. I always hang an underquilt, too, so I do not anticipate a problem with them biting through my hammock.
