Red used to considered best for night vision but now the current suggestion is for green lights.

A version of the Luci style light is on Massdrop. package of 2 for a good price. I have both the Luci and the LuminAid. Both are great options for a light lite.

    Hanging Light From Ridgeline

I use this light. If you are backpacking tho, you should just train yourself to get by with a good headlamp.

16 LED's? Nowadays, with the LED technology we have, why in the world would you need more than 2 or 3, let alone 16?

I don’t know, but I imagine it’s a better approach for a lantern style light to use a bunch of lower output LEDs. It’s not like the light is large or more complex to operate or terrible battery life because of it, so it doesn’t bother me. But I would bet if you ask your question right here, you might actually get an answer straight from the source:

Actually, don’t trouble yourself, I asked for you. Let’s see if we get an answer!

I love the Luci lights, pictured here is the Candle model but I also use the Lux. The Lux gives off a much brighter, more clean soft white, has more modes and has a battery level indicator. The Candle isn't quite as bright, has a much more red / orange hue, but makes the campsite feel very cozy, especially with the flickering candle mode on.

I haven't had either die on me, the longest I've tested one is overnight and into the afternoon for around 14 hours and it was still running. For the power, light, and weight of these lights I can't recommend them enough.

I use one of these from Harbor Freight. They hang perfectly on the ridgeline and best of all, they are free with purchase. Most of the time...

I picked these up for the family last Christmas:

They are china quality, but work fine. Not a bright light, so not painful to turn on in the middle of the night. Perfect to hang on the ridgeline.
