Is bury’s length best described by length before splicing or after splicing completed?
If I know which way is best for strength and safety, without overkill or waste; then I’ll have a better understanding of minimal requirements for hammock suspensions.

For an fixed splice (eye, CL, etc.) the bury length is "marked" on the free end being buried so an 8" bury would have 8" of rope buried while the outer sheath covering that bury started off as ~10" for 7/64" amsteel.
My earlier test example where I stated I marked 8" on the sheath was only done so that I could tell how much it had "shrunk" when completed.
