    Well finished my testing with the carbon fiber ... works ... but just barely. TOO flimsy for good support. The larger size is too stiff ... so going to switch to fiberglass for this application. Little heavier ... but cheaper than going to the wrapped carbon fiber poles.

    Anyway it was an interesting experiment.

    Why not consider aluminum then? The .344 Nanolites from Quest works well.

    and aluminum doesnt explode when lightening hits it! windsurf for years with a guy that had a carbon fiber mast...to this day he's got small pieces of it in his body from a lightening strike

    No fitting necessary. The poles just bend naturally to form a perfect arch. I have a set however that are pre-bent at the top but just barely. The picture in my gallery shows the pre-bent pole.

    Promise no laughing. I've got a couple of kayaks that have very long but thin inflatable air bladders/sponsons that are internal...reminded me that there is a tent on the market or was that had inflatable hoops that provided support for the tent same as hooped poles......so let your imagination run wild and picture this long thin inflattable tube arcing over the tarp...example:
